Football Transfer Rumours

Some Spanish media reports have claimed that the Chelsea are geared up to launch a January bid for Atletico Madrid defender Diego Godin.

According to reports the Blues boss Andre Villas-Boas is still keen on Godin and is preparing to start on an offer for the Uruguayan when the transfer window reopens in the New Year.

Cadena SER believes the Stamford Bridge club are ready to pay in the region of £20million to land the 25-year-old. In the past former boss Carlo Ancelotti had a £15million bid for Godin declined January last year.

It has been also reported that the Bolton Wanderers’ defender Gary Cahill is also on Portuguese radar. The signing of either player may lead to the exodus of Brazilian centre back Alex.

Both Arsenal and Tottenham have shown the interest in signing Alex when the transfer window re-opens which would allow the west London club to generate money and make their move for Godin.

Godin, who made his international debut for Uruguay at the age of just 19, combines the physical presence with an capability to play the ball contentedly from behind. He singed the five-year contract with Atletico Madrid in August 2010.
